Asterand Bioscience Acquires AdeptBio LLC

DETROIT — Asterand Bioscience Inc., the Detroit-based tissue research firm, Tuesday announced the acquisition of AdeptBio LLC, a Memphis, Tenn.-based company that procures human tissue specimens.

Said Peter Ferrigno, CCO of Asterand Bioscience: “Together, we will strengthen our partnership with the pharmaceutical and diagnostic community, providing unparalleled quality samples, highly regulated collection and tailored specifications, for their research needs.”

Added Dr. Lee Schwartzberg, founder of AdeptBio, LLC: “The development of new targeted therapies and companion diagnostics rely on availability of tissues, and increasingly biofluids, linked to deep clinical data. Joining AdeptBio’s network with Asterand Bioscience’s network will strengthen their ability to partner and serve the pharmaceutical and diagnostic community.”

Asterand said AdeptBio employees and its supply network will be incorporated into Asterand’s existing custom procurement offering, expanding its global network of more than 80 collaborating donor institutions. This individually managed custom collection service allows Asterand Bioscience to deliver human tissues, biofluids, and accompanying clinical information in a manner which is most compatible with specific experimental needs of the pharmaceutical and diagnostic community.

Asterand Bioscience is a global provider of high quality, well characterized human tissue and human tissue-based research solutions to drug discovery scientists. It is the product of a merger of Asterand (founded 2000), a human tissue biorepository, and Pharmagene (founded 1996), a human tissue-based drug discovery company. It has offices in Detroit and Royston, England.
