Troy’s Altair Part of Swedish Challenge for America’s Cup

TROY — When a Swedish sailboat challenges for the America’s Cup next month in the Atlantic Ocean, a Troy firm’s technology will be at work in the water.

Altair says its HyperMesh, OptiStruct and Radioss software have been used in designing Artemis Racing’s sailboat daggerboards — foils that lift the boat out of the water to cut drag.

New Software From Altair Subsidiary

TROY — The engineering technology developer Altair announced the release of version 12.3 of its Flux software for low frequency electromagnetic and thermal simulation.

Flux is intended for the analysis, design and optimization of modern applications such as electric rotating machines, actuators and sensors, high power electrical equipment, heat treatment or electromagnetic compatibility.

New Test Unit From Wixom’s DSpace

WIXOM — The test equipment and electronics manufacturer dSpace has introduced an additional processing unit for its Scalexio hardware-in-the-loop test systems.

Equipped with an eight-core Intel Xeon Processor E5, dSpace officials say the new processing unit is ideal for the parallel execution of complex and computationally intensive simulation models. This enables engineers to use high-fidelity, physically realistic models, increases model accuracy, and makes hardware-in-the-loop simulations more realistic.

TROY — The engineering technology provider Altair announced new releases of its solidThinking Design Suite, including solidThinking Inspire 2017 and solidThinking Evolve 2017.

HyperWorks Adds Features For Aerospace Design

TROY — The computer-aided design and engineering software HyperWorks, from the Troy engineering technology developer Altair, has added several new features the company says will improve workflows and provide a complete framework of model building and stress analysis for the aerospace industry.

Company officials said the new tools increase efficiency for aerospace engineers in their daily tasks, including concept design, global and detailed finite element model build, post-processing and certification report generation.

Systems Modeling, Verification Software Added to Altair Partner Alliance

TROY — The Altair Partner Alliance has added the systems engineering software from Brighton-based XLDyn LLC to its lineup of software partnerships. The software is made up of two modules, XLSE and XL1D, which work together to automate the creation of system models and perform one dimensional multi-physics simulations.

Altair buys electromagnetics software developer

TROY — The Troy-based engineering technology developer Altair Engineering says it has completed its acquisition of Grenoble, France-based Cedrat S.A. and its New York-based subsidiary, Magsoft Corp.

In a news release, Altair said Cedrat is a developer of electromagnetic and thermal simulation software, used by manufacturers to accelerate the development of electric and electromagnetic devices such as motors, transformers, sensors, transmission lines, arc chambers and heat treatment processes.

Michigan Tech Adds Modeling, Simulation Software To Engineering Curriculum

HOUGHTON — There’s a new way of doing mechanical engineering, and Michigan Technological University is taking steps to make sure that their students come out of school skilled at using the new technology.

HyperWorks modeling and simulation software, developed by Troy-based Altair Engineering, is delivering a new class of design tools for tomorrow’s engineer. And Michigan Tech is one of the first engineering schools to incorporate this commercial suite of computer-aided engineering software into its entire mechanical engineering curriculum.

The software enables engineers to do simulation-driven design, which takes the place of prototyping, testing and prototyping again.
