DETROIT — AT&T Inc. announced it will expand its ultra-fast AT&T
Fiber internet service in parts of Grand Rapids, the company’s first
expansion of the service in West Michigan.
AT&T introduced the service in metropolitan Detroit last year —
specifically, parts of Canton Township, Clinton Township, Novi and
South Lyon — and plans to expand the service to Ann Arbor, Detroit,
Ferndale and Roseville later this year.
The service will offer homes, apartments and small business locations service at a blazing 1 billion bits per second.
AT&T has rolled out the service in 52 metropolitan areas across the country and plans to add another 23 soon.
AT&T says gigabit speed allows users to download a 90-minute HD movie in a little over 30 seconds. It also allows effortless, glitch-free telecommuting and videoconferencing.
The company says it invested nearly $1.65 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in Michigan between 2013 through 2015.
